For aspirin for many years was considered a miracle drug to treat many different conditions, including headaches. Today however, there are a number of other drugs that are used in place of aspirin and a of these is ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory agents and as aspirin, is its ability to reduce the inflammation that makes it effective in treating headaches, because it is inflammation which helps to generate signals nervous that we perceive as pain.
Ibuprofen is used today to treat a wide range of conditions and, like aspirin, it can be very effective, but can also produce a number of undesirable side effects such as stomach pain, blood in stool and dizziness. Other side effects include a range of allergic reactions that can lead to swelling of the throat or tongue, retention fluids and tinnitus.
Because ibuprofen also affects the consistency of blood, it must be used with care by people with high blood pressure and certain heart diseases, as well as those suffering from ulcers and diseases of the liver or kidney. In all these cases, you should consult your doctor before taking ibuprofen.
Ibuprofen should be avoided during pregnancy. Although it is relatively safe during the early stages of pregnancy to use later, especially during the third quarter, may lead to birth defects. Therefore, ibuprofen should not be taken by pregnant women, except on the recommendation of a specific doctor.
In all cases, side effects of ibuprofen may be reduced or eliminated in most people, ensuring you do not exceed the stated dose and take the pills or liquid medication, with plenty of water or milk. Also, do not combine Ibuprofen with alcohol or take with other over-the-counter drugs like aspirin. Indeed, in general, you should not take ibuprofen with other drugs, unless you are sure it is safe to do so and if you are unsure, Consult your doctor or pharmacist.
One of the great strengths of ibuprofen is that it can be used to treat a wide range headaches and, in particular, studies have shown that headache high altitude (sometimes called acute mountain sickness) respond particularly well to this drug. This means that it is not only very useful for the relatively small number of climbers, but also for the millions of us who fly frequently, either for business or pleasure.
So if you come to aspirin or ibuprofen? No easy answer to this question and this has really compare side effects of both in your personal case and then decide just what suits you better to treat your headaches.
